Biometrics and Face Recognition
In terms of technological advancement, biometrics is one of the most creative technologies inspired by nature. Biometric identification eliminates the need for tokens such as keys, cards and passwords as well as the vulnerabilities that hinders them. Tokens can be duplicated or decoded, unique biometric characteristics such as face, fingerprint, voice iris and palm pattern on the other hand can not be duplicated or decoded.
Biometric identification utilizes this uniqueness to produce fully automated systems. When combined with computerized monitoring, it is an effective security surveillance and management system.
Face recognition technology means to match the characteristics of a face to identify or verify an individual. Camera is used to capture an image of the face, which will be processed and analyzed to identify the biometric characteristics and then recorded as a template.
When identification or verification is requested, the camera will capture the face image of user to match with the database templates, the identification or verification is successful when the user face characteristics matches with higher similarity than required.
With the implementation of face recognition system, users can enjoys the advantages of high security without the risks of token being loss or duplicated. Face recognition is currently widely used in access control and criminals detection areas.
